Time rebound effect in households’ energy use: Theory and evidence

نویسندگان

چکیده

Time-saving goods and services have become increasingly popular because they increase a household's disposable time, which could be allocated to other activities that consume energy and/or electricity. We develop simple theoretical model define the time rebound effect as increased amount of consumption time-saving induce through household tasks. obtain empirical support for this Japanese survey. In particular, our analysis shows use dishwashers online grocery-ordering has significant on spent activities. Our findings showed introduction electricity in-home laundry behavior, implying effect. Currently, is weak, with additional usage being at most 2.58% daily usage. However, proliferation increases, expected significant. Therefore, measures against will also necessary in future. A first step might recognize rebound. Then, policies such carbon pricing public information should considered order avoid energy-consuming actions.

Consumer End-Use Energy Efficiency and Rebound Effects

Energy efficiency policies are pursued as a way to provide affordable and sustainable energy services. Efficiency measures that reduce energy service costs will free up resources that can be spent in the form of increased consumption—either of that same good or service or of other goods and services that require energy (and that have associated emissions). This is called the rebound effect. The...
